Who will be the biggest star of this year’s Asian Games?

- The eight biggest stars of this year’s Asian Games nominated for the Samsung MVP Award

- Accredited media to vote for final MVP, winner announced October 4

(Seoul, Korea, September 30, 2014) – With the 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014 drawing to a close, the Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee (IAGOC) officially announced the eight Samsung MVP Award nominees during a Samsung MVP Award Steering Committee briefing. This year’s eight MVP nominees are South Korean fencer Nam Hyunhee, Chinese gymnast Yao Jinnan, Japanese swimmer Hagino Kosuke, Thailand sepaktakraw player Peachan Suriyan, Chinese shooter Cao Yifei, Democratic People's Republic of Korea weightlifter Kim Unguk, Malaysian squash player David Nicol Ann, and South Korean judo athlete Kim Jaebum.

The prestigious Samsung MVP award is presented to the single athlete with the most distinguished athletic performance throughout the games and also embodies the spirit behind the Vision 2014 program, a joint venture of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), IAGOC, and the city of Incheon, to support the improvement of sports in countries with lesser athletics backing. Fittingly, the final MVP nominees include athletes who displayed their passion and drive, and hold consecutive games titles, multiple medals, and world records

Accredited media will cast their votes for the MVP before the Steering Committee makes a final decision on October 4.The MVP award will be presented during the Closing Ceremonies.

Samsung MVP Award Steering Committee Chairman Kyung-Sang Kwon, Secretary General of the IAGOC, said, “Although there were many outstanding athletes to choose from this year, the Steering Committee had to narrow the nominees down to the final eight candidates. The committee would have especially liked to nominate athletes who were awarded their country’s first medals during this year’s games, who would exemplify the spirit and passion behind the Asian Games, but unfortunately there were no athletes who met this criteria. We encourage all journalists and broadcasters to vote for their MVP and help name the single most distinguished athlete for this year’s games.”
