Commemorative coins for the 17th Asian Games to be minted

 

On April 24, the Bank of Korea has announced that it will issue a set of gold, silver and bronze coins this August to commemorate the 17th Asian Games.

 

The set includes two gold coins, three silver coins and one bronze coin.

 

A maximum of 8,000 gold coins will be issued with a face value of 20,000 Korean Won (20 US dollars) and 15,000 Korean Won (15 US dollars) each.  Up to 37,500 silver coins will be issued with a face value of 10,000 Korean Won (10 US dollars) and two types of 5,000 Korean Won (5 US dollars). The purity of both the gold and silver coins is 99.9 percent. The bronze will be made with 65 percent of copper and 35 percent zinc.

 

In addition, a maximum of 17, 500 bronze coins will be issued with a face value of 1,000 Korean Won (1 US dollar).

 

The gold coins feature the Incheon Asiad main stadium along with sporting images of high jump and football. The silver coins show diving, rhythmic gymnastics and Taekwondo, and finally the Bronze shows the Asian Games mascots and a sports pictogram. The reverse of the all gold, silver and bronze coin shows the emblem of the games.

 

After production, they will be distributed by the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee, said the Bank of Korea.
