(Asiad) More S. Korean titles in judo, shooting as China runs away in medals
By Special Reporting Team
INCHEON, Sept. 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korea picked up its fourth judo gold medal on the final day of the sport's individual competition at the Asian Games on Monday, while the female pistol shooters won a team title.
The host managed to add just those two gold medals to the tally, while China started running away from the competition, as expected.
China snapped up 13 gold medals on Monday from swimming, fencing, wushu, cycling and shooting, among others, to reach 26 for the Asian Games after three full days of competition.
South Korea is a distant second with 14 gold medals. Japan is breathing down on the host's neck with 13 gold medals so far, including six on Monday.

Japan is keeping pace with South Korea thanks to its stars from judo and swimming. Kosuke Hagino, who earlier stunned two Asian giants, Sun Yang of China and Park Tae-hwan of South Korea, to win the 200m freestyle in the pool, became the first triple gold medalist in Incheon on Monday by winning the 200m individual medley and the 4x200m freestyle relay.
Female judoka Jeong Gyeong-mi was the South Korean hero on the mat as she defended her Asiad under-78 kilogram title. She defeated Sol Kyong of North Korea in what was the first inter-Korean battle for a gold medal at this year's Asian Games.
South Korea ended the individual portion of judo with four gold, one silver and five bronze medals. Three of the gold medals came from the women's side. The team competition is set for Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, the women's pistol trio of Kim Jang-mi, Lee Jung-eun and Kwak Jung-hye won the 25-meter pistol team gold medal. It was the country's first team gold in the women's shooting.
All three shooters also made it to the individual final but failed to reach the podium.
The host's baseball team got off to a rousing start in its gold medal defense, clobbering Thailand 15-0 in a game that ended after five innings on a mercy rule.
The South Koreans pounded the Thai pitching for 13 hits but didn't hit a home run. They will next take on Chinese Taipei, considered the biggest threat to South Korea's gold medal hopes.
South Korea's winning streak in fencing came to a halt on Monday, as Shin A-lam in the women's epee and Heo Jun in the men's foil both settled for silver.
Over the past two days, the host had swept up all four individual fencing titles at stake.
In six individual events for fencing, South Korea won four gold, three silver and one bronze medals. The team competition starts on Tuesday with the women's sabre and the men's epee.
More silver medals for the host came from the men's sepaktakraw doubles, the women's team pursuit cycling and the women's team badminton.
In a bizarre development early in the day, the Chinese women's shooting team in the 10m air rifle event set a world record but lost it after a disqualification ruling and then got it back following a ruling reversal.
The Chinese trio of Yi Siling, Zhang Binbin and Wu Liuxi had won the team air rifle gold with 1253.8 points, breaking the previous mark held by another team of Chinese shooters by 0.1 point. Moments after the score was posted, Zhang was disqualified for use of unauthorized equipment. Yet the Chinese team appealed, on the grounds that Zhang had no intention of breaking the rule, and the judging committee reversed its decision.
The score stood as the first world record from shooting in Incheon.
Elsewhere, North Korea continued to flex its muscles in weightlifting. Ri Jong-hwa seized gold in the women's 58㎏ division, for the country's third weightlifting gold. Later in the day, another North Korean, Kim Myong-hyok, won the silver medal in the men's 69㎏ class.
The North has so far won three gold medals along with a silver medal in weightlifting.
