IAGOC Holds Media Luncheon

The 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee (IAGOC) held a Media Luncheon with some of the major members of the Korean and international media in Seoul on January 20.

 

Held at the Korea Press Center, the Luncheon was attended by Mr. Kim Young-soo, the president of IAGOC; Mr. Kwon Kyung-sang, the secretary general of IAGOC; Mr. Im Kwon-taek, the director of the 2014 Asian Games Opening & Closing Ceremonies; and Mr. Jang Jin, the producer of the 2014 Asian Games Opening & Closing Ceremonies.  The media in attendance included KBS, MBC, SBS, Chosun Ilbo, Joongang Ilbo, Donga Ilbo, AFP, Tokyo Shimbun, TV Asahi, EPA, Sipa Press, Chinese Economic Daily, and Dalian Radio & TV.

 

The Luncheon included a brief presentation on the current state of preparations of the 2014 Asian Games and a question-and-answer session.  Mr. Kim remarked that the remaining eight months of preparations until the opening of the 2014 Asian Games will be a period of developing interesting contents to attract spectators to the Games.  Mr. Im and Mr. Jang explained some concepts of the Opening & Closing Ceremonies, that they will be an occasion of mixture of the diverse and colorful cultures of Asia, and a combination of humanism and technology.  To the question about the possibility of North Korea’s participation in the Incheon Games, Mr. Kwon replied that there is no official confirmation from North Korea about their participation in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, but that there is no reason that North Korea will not participate in the 2014 Games, and that Incheon will welcome them wholeheartedly should they choose to participate.

 

Mr. Kim requested the media to work with the IAGOC for the coverage of the Asian Games and he assured the IAGOC’s commitment to provide the necessary information and services to facilitate the work of the media during the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
