    • Highlights : Sri Lanka has competed in every Asian Games apart from the 1982 and 1986 editions.

      Athletics has been integral to Sri Lanka's success at the Asian Games, with 13 of its 20 medallists competing in athletics. Two athletes with four medals each stand taller than the rest in Sri Lanka's Asian Games history. Both Damayanthi Darsha and Susanthika Jayasinghe won their first Asian Games medal in the women's 200m in 1994 - Darsha claimed a bronze and Jayasinghe won silver. Darsha then went on to win gold in the 200m and 400m in 1998 before defending her 400m title in 2002, while Jayasinghe won gold in the 100m in 2002 before claiming silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m in 2006.
