NOC Profile

  • General interest
    • Highlights : Thailand is one of only six countries to have competed in every edition of the Asian Games, and it is the only country to have hosted the Games four times. Bangkok hosted the Games in 1966, 1970, 1978 and 1998.

Thailand is traditionally strong in boxing and sepaktakraw. In the latter, Suebsak Phunsueb has won more gold medals than any other Thai athlete in any sport, with seven. He was part of the Thailand team that won both the team and regu events at three consecutive Games between 1998 and 2006, and he added another team gold in 2010.

Somluck Kamsing is the only Thai boxer to win two gold medals at the Asian Games. He triumphed in the featherweight division in 1994 and 1998, and in between added an Olympic title in 1996.
