NOC Profile

  • General interest
    • Highlights : Shooter Saied Al Mutairi won Saudi Arabia's first Asian Games gold medal in the skeet event at the 1994 Asian Games.

Athletics is traditionally a strong sport for Saudi Arabia and it has won 15 of its 21 gold medals in the sport, and all three Saudi Arabian athletes to have won three gold medals competed in athletics. Cousins Hamed and Hamdan Odha Al Bishi were teammates in the 2002 and 2006 4x100m relay teams that took gold, and Hamdan Odha became the first athlete to win three gold medals when he won the 400m. Hamed joined his cousin on three golds in 2010, when he was part of the Saudi Arabia team that won the 4x100m relay. The other athlete to have won three gold medals is sprinter Mohammed Al-Salhi, who was part of the triumphant 4x400m relay team in 2002, 2006 and 2010.

In Guangzhou four years ago, Saudi Arabia excelled in equestrian jumping. Inspired by being part of the Saudi Arabia team that won gold two days earlier, Ramzi Al Duhami added another gold in the individual event, on his horse Bayard V Devilla T.
