ASIAN GAMES U-TURN
She chose to compete at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, just two days after the All India Tennis Association [AITA] announced they would let their top players skip the event because of their world tour commitments. Mirza missed the Women's Tennis Association [WTA] tournament in Wuhan, China, to play at the Games. "I was feeling weird, and I was not happy with my decision, so I thought I would play. NATIONAL FIRSTS
In 2005 she became the first Indian sportswoman to feature on the cover of Time magazine [South Asian edition]. In 2005 she became the first Indian player to win a WTA tour title with her victory in Hyderabad, India. In 2009 she became the first Indian female player to win a Grand Slam title after winning the mixed doubles with partner Mahesh Bhupathi at the 2009 Australian Open in Melbourne, VIC, Australia.
