General
OLYMPIC DISQUALIFICATION
She was one of eight players from four doubles pairs who were disqualified from the women's doubles competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London after a Badminton World Federation [BWF] disciplinary committee ruled they had deliberately attempted to lose a group match in order to manipulate the knockout stage. The players appeared to deliberately hit shots long, wide or into the net, in an effort to avoid facing either their compatriots or the top seeds in the knockout stage. After being booed off the courts by spectators, all four pairs [one from China, two from Korea, and one from Indonesia] were charged by the BWF with "not using one's best efforts to win a match" and "conducting oneself in a manner that is abusive or detrimental to the sport" and expelled from the competition. She and partner Meiliana Jauhari were suspended for four months by the Badminton Association of Indonesia. (abc.net.au, BBC, 01 Aug 2012; bloomberg.com, 05 Sep 2012)

EARLY LIFE
Her father died when she was two after which she and her family moved away from Jakarta to Manado. Her family eventually returned to Jakarta when she was eight, but throughout her childhood her family struggled to pay for badminton equipment. At one stage her mother sold clothes so she could buy a pair of shoes and a racquet. (Badzine, 03 Mar 2010; profil.merdeka.com, 10 Mar 2013)
