General
FAMILY SUPPORT
She comes from a part of India infamous for its patriarchal societal mindset and therefore finds herself lucky to get full family support. Her father Mahavir Singh Phogat, himself a former wrestler, faced an uphill battle when he started training his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari in wrestling. Her sisters faced the prejudice from villagers. They had no female wrestlers in village to train with and eventually had to fight their male counterparts. Only after witnessing the success in major wrestling events like the Asian Games, world championships and Olympic Games, the village made them their pride. "I did not have to struggle or face the barbs. Geeta and Babita went through that and changed the template. For me, the path was always clear to win medals."
