Reason for taking up this sport
A rowing coach noticed her long arm span and suggested rowing, but she initially refused because she wanted to be a volleyball player. The coach persisted and eventually convinced her family to encourage her to start rowing. (tienphong.vn, 04 Dec 2013)

TRAINING ABROAD
She was one of a group of rowers from Vietnam that went on a two-month training to Australia in early 2013. (english.vov.vn, 01 Mar 2013)

RENTED BOAT
She and crewmate Pham Thi Hai competed at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England using a rented boat as the limited budget of the Vietnam team prevented them shipping their own. (vietnamnews.vn, 21 Jul 2012; olympic.org, 14 Ago 2014)

NEARLY DROWNED
She almost drowned in early 2008 when her boat capsized during a training session on West Lake in Vietnam. As she was leaving the course, her boat overturned. She yelled for help and was rescued by teammates, but needed a week off training to recover. She had kept secret that she was a poor swimmer as team regulations required members were able to swim. Team officials sent her for swimming lessons after the incident, but she still has limited swimming skills and is not allowed to train alone. (tuoitrenews.vn, 01 Aug 2012; tienphong.vn, 04 Dec 2013)
