TRAGEDY
After she won gold at the 2012 Olympic Games, her parents finally revealed the news of her grandparents' death, which happened over a year earlier, as well as her mother's eight year battle with breast cancer. NATIONAL AND OLYMPIC FIRSTS
She became the first Chinese athlete in Olympic history to win three consecutive gold medals in the same discipline, when she triumphed in the 3m synchronised springboard at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The result also made her the first woman to win three consecutive Olympic synchronised diving titles. Her two golds in London drew her level with Chinese diver Guo Jingjing as the most decorated female diver in Olympic history. FAMOUS BRIDESMAID

ILLNESS
