MENTAL PREPARATION
Leading into any race, she feels that being relaxed and calm are the most important aspects of her preparation. "The mental aspect of preparation is the most important part of my preparation, because I need to make sure that I'm relaxed leading up to the race, and mentally pumped up when I report for the event." UNITED STATES TRAINING
In 2014 she went to Jacksonville, FL, United States, for four months of training with Spanish swimming coach Sergio Lopez Miro, to prepare her for the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Korea. (todayonline.com, 08 May 2014)

NATIONAL FIRST
She became the first Singaporean athlete to reach the final of a swimming event at the Olympic Games when she finished fifth in the 100m butterfly at the 2008 Games in Beijing. (todayonline.com, 08 May 2014)

FROM CHINA TO SINGAPORE
She was born and raised in China, but in 2002 her mother Yan Li decided she should move to Singapore. This was despite her father wanting Tao to continue swimming at provincial level in China, as he believed she could go on to represent the Chinese national team.
